Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel & Cabins

One of only two hotels in the park open in the winter, Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel & cabins offers a range of lodging options: from the two high-end suites down to simple cabins with bare bulbs and no private bathrooms. The hotel’s biggest appeal are the hot tubs, enclosed but outside of several of the mid-range cabins. The usual warnings about thin walls and drafty doors apply, but for within-the-park lodging--especially in winter time--it’s a good bet.

What's Good
Unlike Old Faithful Snow Lodge, which requires snowcoach transportation, Mammoth Hot Springs is accessible by car thanks to its convenient location on the Grand Loop. Elk and buffalo are often spotted from these cabins, and though the budget cabins require hardy souls, the hotel houses a restaurant and espresso bar, along with the hot tubs, to warm you up.

What Could be Improved.
The basic cabins are very basic, with no bathrooms and spartan furnishings, offering cold comfort for winter visitors.

Who is it Good for?
Visitors turned off by the kitschiness of the more famous Old Faithful Inn, and those who like to follow up their outdoor adventures with hot soak.

Amenities run the gamut from the bare-bones budget cabins with no private bathrooms, to mid-range cabins (with and without hot tubs) to suites with sitting rooms, TVs and telephones.
